lightning

is a lovely thing

a gift from Zeus

his party trick

his wild celestial

bling

a flash

no earthly

pyrotechnician

can match

and random with it

direct from Mt Olympus

all the way

to freak us out

to scare us

with a little

thrill

it’s brill

and never mind the thunder

a mere afterthought

beamed in from Valhalla

a Nordic rumble

post-it note from Thor

knock on the door

of fright

to estimate

our distance

from the storm

one bloody second

two bloody seconds

three

bold flashy

light show

that will seek me out

behind my couch

expose me

like a photograph

burn me to the ground

quick!

cover mirrors

curtain windows

keep away from

glass.
