crass pursuit of wealth

changing rules and fixtures

like so many gaudy guernseys

and another chance

to gouge

to turn a buck

milk the mugs

stiff the punters

not give a flying fuck


no bounce!

the very thing

that makes our game

unique

and quirky

that ball would land

a dozen different ways

depending on

the weather

wind

condition of the turf

now

it just goes up

then down

why bother with the ump at all

(their spines already

turned to jelly

by reliance on

that robot in a box

and fear of litigation)

install a remote ball ejector

celebrity to push the button

from a lofty corporate suite

and while you’re at it

make the ball a round one

and a little bigger

softer

like your stupid carnal brains
