DIG IT

Writer: JANE CLIFTONJANE CLIFTON

November 4th 2023

hands in the dirt

wrenching weeds

planting seeds

until old knees

scream stop!

but you can’t stop

the sun is up

the wind is down

and there is no better day

than this one

to exert

your influence

on this small square

of land

trowel in hand

and gloves

and watering can

while you still can

make pretty things appear

to bring you joy

with each bud and petal

leaf and branch

each blossom

scented

complex

in design

and purpose

meaningless

and meaningful

if you have

the time.
