SAD FACE

Oct 20 Sad Face muzzled for life

now the sun is out

it feels unnatural

science-fictional

a Jetson kinda world

that none of us

signed up for

the face reduced

down to a pair of eyes

and not just women

not just because of sex

this time

all of the human race

must mask

if we are to survive

and it’s a big ask

we’ve come a long way

from the apes

the breath of life

now not so pure

thanks to our greed

must henceforth

breach a gate

of cloth

fragile curtain

‘gainst the plague

of virus

omnipotent and silent

lurking in the foetid

and deceptive air

incoming from the trough

pig marketing of

weird and batshit

dietary requirements

talismen

cures

mystic broths

scarfed down like

lemonade

in hope

of immortality

and potency

prosperity

‘out flew the web

and floated wide’

our faces draped

from side to side

must now forever be

how we

shall stem the tide

Canute the sea

come sunshine

winter rain

or drought

we’ll cover up

block gob and snout

when ere

in air

we dare

to venture out.
