My love affair with radio began age 7 when I first heard my name read out on the BBC programme Housewife's Choice. For my birthday my mother had requested they play They're changing guards at Buckingham Palace for me. Pre-television days living on a British Army base in Germany, the first rock 'n roll radio I heard was Radio Luxembourg.
With my ear glued to the trannie in 60's Perth I transcribed all the hit parades each week as they were read out and was a serial radio competition winner.
In the 70's I leapt at the chance to be a presenter on 3CR and 3RMT-FM. I lusted after the afternoon shift on 3LO from the early days of Mary Adams, when Muriel Cooper ruled the ratings in the vacuum left by the departure of the incandescent Claudia Wright and the scandalous Mary Hardy.
I have enjoyed my turn at both Radio National and 774ABC and continue to be a huge fan of TripleR and RN and anything not involving that last refuge of the whinger and the bigot - talkback. My voice-work these days is confined to recording audio books and voice-overs.
